The Nevada Gaming Control Board has recommended approval of a license for Tokyo-based supplier Sega Sammy, which is expected to introduce pachinko games similar to those in Japanese amusement arcades to Nevada casinos.
Pachinko games are slot-like amusement machines that normally feature a pegboard-style bonus. Many slots from U.S. manufacturers have included pachinko-style bonuses, but this would be the first authentic pachinko games in the U.S. market. Pachinko games generally involve an element of skill, in which a lever is used to propel pinballs around a machine’s playing field to win cash prizes or extra balls if maneuvering the ball into certain holes
Sega Sammy also produces pashislot machines, which are slots with a skill-stop feature; and video games. The company plans to launch a video baccarat game in Nevada.
The board was unanimous in voting to recommend approval of Sega Sammy’s license. The final licensing decision lies with the Nevada Gaming Commission, which is expected to officially grant the supplier’s license on November 16.
