Senate Committee Probes Trump Reductions to Indian Affairs Budget

The Senate Committee on Indian Affairs plans to call some members of the Trump administration to account next week. They want to know why the 2019 budget includes cuts to Indian programs.

The Senate Committee on Indian Affairs will be conducting oversight hearings over reductions in Indian programs requested by the Trump administration for fiscal year 2019.

Committee Chairman John Hoeven and Vice Chairman Tom Udall both plan to grill administration officials on cuts to Indian programs.

Udall commented that the budget “once again shows this administration’s disregard for the federal government’s trust and treaty obligations to provide basic services to Native Americans.”
