North Dakota’s U.S. Senator John Hoeven (l.) has been reelected chairman of the Senate Committee on Indian Affairs. He has pledged to work to empower tribal economic progress and improve public safety, health care and schools for tribes.

Senator Reelected to Indian Affairs Chairmanship

U.S. Senator John Hoeven of North Dakota has been reelected as chairman of the Senate Committee on Indian Affairs for the incoming Congress.

The senator issued this statement: “It is a privilege to work on behalf of Indian Country as a member of the Senate Committee on Indian Affairs and a distinct honor to be re-elected to serve as Chairman of the Committee for the 116th Congress.”

Hoeven, a Republican, said he looked forward to working with the ranking Democratic member of the committee, Vice Chairman Senator Tom Udall of New Mexico.

I will continue to advance the priorities of empowering tribal economic development as well as improving public safety, health care and education in tribal communities,” he said.
