Senecas Choose New York Town for Casino Site

The Seneca Nation of New York wants to build their fourth casino in the state in the community of Henrietta, near Rochester.

Town board scouts other tribal properties

The Seneca Nation of Indians has chosen a parcel of land in Henrietta, New York, near Rochester, for its newest casino, reports ABC affiliate WHAM-13. No precise location or any other details have been announced.

“They are in the process of securing that property,” said Henrietta Town Supervisor Jack Moore.

The Senecas have partnered with regional developer David Flaum on the project, which would be built in a commercial district.

Henrietta’s town board has taken a trip to the tribe’s existing casinos in Buffalo and Niagara Falls. “We went to get a feel for how they integrated themselves in the community,” Moore said. “I’ve never been a fan of casinos to start with personally. I’m looking to see what type of financial assistance they’re going to give the town, it being the host community. I’m looking to see what kinds of jobs they’re going to bring to the community. And I want to make sure they’re not going to hurt the other businesses that are here in the community.”

The tribe also owns a casino in Salamanca.
