Start of a three-year project
The Seneca Nation of Indians, which already has three multimillion-dollar casino resorts in western New York State, has opened a mini-casino near the community of Cuba Lake. The Class II gaming facility opened July 2.
“I’m losing money, but it’s still fun,” customer Virginia Haskell told the Olean Times-Herald on opening day. “I’ll come back. They just need some more machines and maybe some free drinks for the customers.”
“Today is a huge success,” said General Manager Lee Milks. “We have more people here than machines. It’s not a bad problem to have. It just means we need to have a bigger facility.”
That larger facility may be in the offing. Judy Farmer, acting director of Class II Gaming, told the Times-Herald that the Cuba Lake site could grow.
“This is just temporary, part of a three-year project,” Farmer said. “We will use the revenue from this site to create a larger facility near the lake that will feature more than 400 machines.”
The new casino will be open from 9 a.m. to midnight, seven days a week.
