Industry-independent watchdog the Senet Group has appointed Sarah Hanratty as new chief executive, replacing former CEO George Kidd.
Hanratty joins the Senet Group from the UK alcohol standards association The Portman Group, where she was deputy chief executive and director of corporate affairs for about five years. Hanratty also served as head of communications for the National Lottery Commission from 2004 to 2010. She will take the post in August.
Launched in January 2015, in response to public concerns regarding gambling its advertising, The Senet Group seeks to work with the UK government, UKGC and industry stakeholders to develop a safer and fairer marketplace, the group said in a press release.
“Gambling is enjoyed safely by millions of people as a leisure activity each year, yet the industry faces an immense challenge to regain the public’s trust and confidence,” said Gillian Wilmot, chairman of the Senet Group. “Sarah brings a wealth of experience in effecting change across the alcohol sector and has done much to secure its sustainability as a category which adds positively to society and our national way of life.”
