September Debut Set for The Londoner

The first phase of Sands China’s US$2 billion remake of its Cotai Central resort complex into the Londoner (l.) will open on schedule this fall. Plans call for a fourth hotel, more MICE space, a 6,000-seat arena and an array of themed attractions.

September Debut Set for The Londoner

Sands China says the first phase of The Londoner Macao will open on time in September.

The announcement was made by Wilfred Wong, president of the Hong Kong-listed subsidiary of Las Vegas Sands.

“Our construction progress was not postponed, but has been even faster than expectations since there have been no tourists,” he said.

The US$2 billion themed resort is being grafted onto the three-hotel gaming complex that debuted in the spring of 2012 as Sands Cotai Central.

The Londoner will add a fourth hotel to the site for a total of 6,000 rooms and suites, and there will be expanded conventions and meetings space. Plans for the rest of the resort include a replica of the Houses of Parliament and the Big Ben clock, a 6,000-seat arena, a rethemed shopping mall, new restaurants and a combination of virtual reality and street shows built around popular tourist experiences associated with the British capital.

The gaming areas will have a capacity for up to 450 tables and 2,000 machine games.

Wong said the fully built-out resort will be completed and opened next year.
