Two clubs appeal order
Seven jackpot clubs in Singapore have been ordered to shut down their operations by April 2018 for reported breaches of new gaming regulations, according to Channel News Asia.
The new rules include restricting entry to people under the age of 21 and limiting operating hours from 10 a.m. to 11 p.m., reported the Asia Gaming Brief.
Two of the seven clubs, Gombak United Football Club and Tanjong Pagar United Football Club have appealed the order, saying the revenue from jackpots is vital to their organizations.
“For us, as with many other clubs, we have problems attracting sponsors,” said Gombak United FC Chairman John Yap. “We may have to take drastic action and maybe consider closing our club in the long term if we are unable to continue the funding from the jackpot machines. We hope the authorities will review and understand our football aspirations.”
According to the Ministry of Home Affairs, Singapore had around 82 jackpot venues in July and almost 1,900 jackpot machines. The Ministry of Home Affairs said the police have issued permits to 65 clubs, reported AGB.
