Shared Riverboat Revenue Allows Upgrades

Officials in Elgin, Illinois know how they'll spend the $9.7 million the city will receive next year from the state's $33 million shared gambling revenue fund plus admission revenue from Grand Victoria Casino. Plans include police-car security systems, new squad cars and firefighting equipment, plus a new pedestrian bridge at a park.

The city of Elgin, Illinois expects to receive .7 million next year from shared gambling and admission revenue at Grand Victoria Casino. The money will come out of the state’s 2017 riverboat fund of million. The city also receives lease payments from the riverboat as well as about 0,000 in video gambling proceeds.

Officials said they plan to spend $1 million from the shared riverboat casino revenue to purchase high-definition police car cameras. New squad cars will cost $700,000 and new firefighting equipment will cost $400,000. In addition, the city will put aside $3 million in contingency funds for TIF incentives for a new auto mall development.

The shared gambling funds also will be used for security upgrades at city hall, a new pedestrian bridge at a park and improvements at a public swimming pool, officials said.
