Singapore Casinos Still Open, Practicing Safety Measures

Social distancing and crowd control are among the tools being implemented by Singapore’s two casino resorts, Marina Bay Sands (l.) and Resorts World Sentosa, which remain open despite the coronavirus threat.

Singapore Casinos Still Open, Practicing Safety Measures

Gamblers in need of a fix have few places to go these days, but at least two major casino resorts remain open: Resorts World Sentosa (RWS) and Marina Bay Sands (MBS), both in Singapore.

The city-state off the coast of Malaysia has been more lightly affected by the Covid-19 pandemic that’s closed gaming halls all around the world. That said, the two casino hotels, operated by Genting and the Las Vegas Sands Corp., respectively, are restricting casino access and implementing safe distancing measures to comply with government regulations.

According to the Singapore Business Times, access to the RWS casino will be limited to existing Genting Rewards card members and annual levy holders. At MBS, only Sands Rewards Club members with gold status or higher and annual levy holders will have access to its casino.

In addition, both casinos are ensuring that patrons keep a safe distance; RWS has barred entry to groups of more than 10 patrons and maintaining least one meter of space (10.7 feet) between guests.

RWS has also introduced its own measures, including using alternate seats for table games and electronic gaming machines, and not accepting bets from standing patrons.

“Marina Bay Sands is committed to safeguard the health and well-being of our community during the Covid-19 situation, while maintaining business continuity for the integrated resort,” a property spokesperson told GGRAsia in an email.
