Singapore, Hong Kong Ready To Float Travel ‘Bubble’

Hong Kong (l.) and Singapore have reached an accord to reopen to each other’s tourists. The first planes are scheduled to start flying on a limited basis later this month. For Singapore’s hard-pressed casinos, it can’t happen soon enough.

Singapore, Hong Kong Ready To Float Travel ‘Bubble’

A new “air travel bubble” agreed between Singapore and Hong Kong will welcome its maiden flights on November 22.

The project, which will reconnect the cities with quarantine-free tourist travel, will be limited initially to one flight per day each way and with the number of passengers limited to 200 per flight.

If all goes well, the flights will be increased in early December to two a day.

The bubble, the subject of weeks of negotiations between authorities of the two cities, could provide some welcome relief to Singapore’s two resort casinos𑁋Marina Bay Sands and Resorts World Sentosa𑁋which have seen revenues plummet in the absence of normal travel from China.

To qualify, travelers must submit a negative Covid-19 test within 72 hours of departure and must confirm that they have not traveled outside their respective cities for at least 14 days prior to leaving.

Beyond that, visitors will not be subjected to any restrictions on their itineraries.

However, returning Hong Kong travelers will be re-tested at Hong Kong International Airport at their own expense and will be confined to a special area of the airport to await the results, which are expected to take around four hours.
