Sky UK has announced it limit gambling advertisements to one per advertising break starting in August 2019.
The limit will apply to all channels that Sky sells advertising and will include channels like Viacom’s Channel 5 as well as those Sky operates directly.
Sky’s services currently allow four gambling ads per ad break. The new rules will become just before the start of the UK’s Premier League football season.
The UK’s Telegraph newspaper reported that Steven van Rooyen, CEO of Sky UK, said the change comes in response to customer concerns about the high number of gambling ads currently shown.
Sky UK also plans a control system which will allow users block gambling advertisement and replace them with alternate ads. The service could be available by 2020, the report said.
