Slight Delay for Jeju Casino

Hong Kong-listed Landing International Development, promoter of Jeju Shinhwa World (l.) in South Korea, says the resort’s casino will open before the end of 2017, but after its previously planned debut of December 8.

Marriott hotel also to debut

The foreigners-only casino at Jeju Shinhwa World on Jeju Island, South Korea, will not open December 8 as previously announced. Landing International Development Ltd., the promoter behind the project, told GGRAsia the casino will open “at the end of the year.”

The Marriott hotel at the site will open about the same time and a retail zone is expected to launch before the end of the year, Landing confirmed.

Landing Senior Vice President David Hoon said the company will close its gaming operation at the Hyatt Regency Jeju Hotel and move it to the new site. He said the Jeju Shinhwa casino will have 150 to 160 gaming tables.

The resort and spa will open with 486 rooms in Phase I and add 144 rooms in Phase II for a total of 630. The property will also include convention and meeting space and three restaurants, a bar and a café.

Phase II will also add a Four Seasons Resort and Spa and a Hollywood-themed outdoor park, Lionsgate Movie World, to be completed in 2019.

In September, Landing opened the Shinhwa Theme Park at the resort, offering 15 rides and attractions themed by TUBAn, a South Korean digital animation studio specializing in 3D attractions.
