42 slot clubs remain

In Singapore, the number of clubs offering slot machines has fallen after the government established stricter problem-gambling regulations, according to local media. There are now a total of 42 clubs compared to 61 in October 2017, according to figures released by the Ministry of Home Affairs and reported in Inside Asian Gaming.

Last year, the government toughened the rules for jackpot machine permits in an effort to stem compulsive gambling. Seven clubs opted not to reapply when their licenses expired, the reports said. The changes are being phased in over two years.

Measures introduced last November included a requirement for jackpot machine users to be over 21 and a club member for at least a year, IAG reported. They are not allowed to bring guests. There are also new restrictions on opening hours and advertising. ATMs, credit card facilities and electronic fund transfer systems are also banned.
