Slot Temporarily Shuts Lumière Place

Tropicana Entertainment's Lumière Place casino in downtown St. Louis, Missouri closed for nearly 12 hours starting at 8 p.m. Wednesday, July 16, due to slot machine failure. Customers were paid manually as casino technicians went to work on the problem. Officials said they are "working with the manufacturer to resolve the issue."

A slot machine failure caused Tropicana Entertainment’s Lumière Place casino in downtown St. Louis, Missouri to temporarily close. Lumière Place officials said “a system failure” of the slot machines began just before 8 p.m., Wednesday, July 16. Customers were manually paid by cashiers as casino technicians began working to correct the problem. The casino reopened at 6:30 a.m. Thursday, July 17.

Missouri Gaming Commission spokesperson Leann McCarthy said commissioners ordered the casino closed at 11:45 p.m., about four hours after the problem surfaced, even though the problem was limited to the slot machines.

In a statement, Lumière Place officials said, “We are aware of the issue and are sorry for the inconvenience to customers. We are currently working with the manufacturer to resolve the issue. Customers are still getting paid, but through a manual process. So it is taking longer until the issue is resolved.”

The casino has remained open as Lumière Place IT workers tried to determine what caused the slots problem.
