Slots Drive Nevada Casino Win

Largely boosted by increased slots revenues, Nevada casinos won $11.1 billion for the 2016 fiscal year, which ended June 30, the Nevada Gaming Control Board reported. The year’s win total was up by 0.66 percent from 2015, with slots accounting for $7.1 billion, up 3.2 percent this year. Table games proved less profitable this year, with Nevada casinos taking in 3.5 percent less in 2016 with a game and table win total of $4 billion.

The year’s win total was up by 0.66 percent from 2015, with slots accounting for $7.1 billion, up 3.2 percent this year.

Table games proved less profitable this year, with Nevada casinos taking in 3.5 percent less in 2016 with a game and table win total of $4 billion.

On the Las Vegas Strip, casinos won more than $6.2 billion for the year, which is a 0.64 percent decrease from the 2015 fiscal year.

The slots win on the Strip was up by 3.3 percent at $3.1 billion, while the game and table win was down 4.2 percent, with a $3.2 billion total win.

Most of the decline in table game revenues is due to baccarat, which continued its recent slide with a $1.3 billion win total for the year, down 6.4 percent from 2015.

Baccarat is very popular among Asian visitors and Chinese in particular, but the Chinese government about two years ago began discouraging its citizens from taking gambling trips and cracked down on corrupt.

The result is reduced baccarat revenues on the Las Vegas Strip, and steep declines in gaming revenues in Macau.

Fortunately, other gaming on the Las Vegas Strip overcame the baccarat decline. For June, Strip casinos won $488.9 million, a 9.7 percent gain from a year ago.

Downtown Las Vegas casinos won nearly $550 million for the 2016 fiscal year, which is a 5.4 percent increase from 2015. Downtown casinos won $42.4 million in June, which is up 0.56 percent from June 2015.

Including North Las Vegas, Laughlin, and Mesquite casinos, Clark County casinos won $761.6 million in June and $9.6 billion for the year, up 7.3 percent and 0.58 percent, respectively.

In Washoe County, gaming revenues increased for the year by 3.2 percent with a total win of $789.4 million. The June win total, likewise, was up, with a 4.1 percent gain at $66 million.

Statewide, casinos won $887.4 million in June, a 6.8 percent increase for a year ago, the Gaming Control Board reported.

Nevada’s gaming win for the fiscal year outperformed Macau, which posted a 22.5 percent decline for the year and has reported declining gaming revenues for 25 straight months.
