The government of Slovenia recently submitted to the European Commission a plan to grant 15 casino licenses and 45 permits for smaller gambling halls, as reported by Gaming Intelligence.
In addition to the brick-and-mortar casinos, Slovenia would license i-gaming companies for periods of 10 years, with options for five-year extensions. Sports betting would be allowed under the i-gaming approval.
Slovenia-headquartered companies or those with main offices in other European Union countries could apply for licenses.
The EC could announce approval of the Slovenian plan as early as May 30.
