Slow Boat to China

Macau’s Marine and Water Bureau, known as the DSAMA, recently took reporters on a tour of a new yacht facility that will offer berths for 50 tourist boats by the end of the year.

Macau’s Marine and Water Bureau recently led members of the news media around a new yachting facility for boats traveling between Zhongshan and Macau, the Macau Daily Times reported. The facility is part of the so-called “individual visit scheme.”

The berth is expected to open before the end of this year, said Jesse Lei, head of the Shipping and Seafarers Department. “On the Macau side, everything is about ready. We are just waiting for the conclusion of the works on the Zhongshan pier, the facilities of which had to be upgraded from commercial port to a tourism berth,” said Lei.

If the facility succeeds, say DSAMA, the project could be expanded to 150 berthing locations.
