The Saginaw Chippewa Indian Tribe recently announced its Soaring Eagle Casino & Resort in Mt. Pleasant, Michigan will undergo a .5 million renovation that will begin in January and be completed by fall 2018. The tribal council voted 11-0 in July to approve the project.
Phase one of the 7-part construction plan, to be completed by April 22, will include relocating the casino’s high limit gaming area and transforming the existing poker room into a luxury high limit gaming area to include casino hosts’ offices and an integrated VIP lounge. Phase two, beginning January 15 and completed by March 11, will include remodeling the Kid’s Quest / Cyber Quest areas.
Starting April 23, phases three, four and five will include constructing an enclosed poker room and an enclosed non-smoking gaming area. In addition, the new ASCEND sports bar & night club will feature a grand entry with 12-foot pivoting doors, a wing-shaped center bar, VIP seating area, entertainment stage, 59 bar-top slot machines, dramatic lighting effects and multiple TV screens. These phases will be completed June 17, July 29 and August 12, respectively.
Starting June 18 and completed September 23, phase six will include updating the existing entertainment hall new acoustics and high-tech programmable lighting elements, plus unlimited scene-producing multi-media panels on the stage.
The final phase seven will last five weeks and include rebranding the sub shop, adding seating and improving the entry area.
The last major renovation at Soaring Eagle occurred in 2011. The property opened in 1998.
In June, the tribe broke ground on a new 5-story, 148-room hotel at its Saganing Eagles Landing Casino in Standish, which also will include a hospitality suite, a full-service restaurant, retail space and a larger gaming floor with 400 additional slot machines. Construction will be completed in early 2019.
