Mohegan Gaming and Entertainment’s International President Bobby Soper says he is confident that its casino project in South Korea will please Asian customers with its level of service.
MGE is developing the Inspire Entertainment Resort near South Korea’s Incheon International Airport. It is the gaming tribe’s first venture outside of the U.S.
In an interview with GGRAsia, Soper said that Phase one of the development, “will be completed sometime in the fourth quarter of 2023, and it will have significant integrated resort amenities,” and will be done, in a “culturally appropriate way.”
The design is driven by non-gaming aspects of the integrated resort. “We’re real excited about the opportunity in South Korea. We are an entertainment company, and Seoul is the Asian hub for pop culture, especially live entertainment,” said Soper. “We have this significant opportunity to monetize our entertainment assets, all the non-gaming assets.”
Although the existing casinos in the country are for non-Koreans only, the new casino will be allowed to welcome local residents.
Soper said, “But there’s also a remarkably robust number of residents in the Seoul area who will be permitted to gamble. We think there’s a tremendous opportunity for gaming in our proximity.”
