South Africa Big on Sports Betting

Young people in South Africa comprise the largest group of millennials who bet once a week. Members of this demographic spend about US$50 a month on football wagers, according to a new poll.

Wages less than per day

A new survey shows that millennials between the ages of 17 and 35 spend an average of US$50 per week on sports betting in South Africa, most of the bettors are unemployed and earn an average of less than $2 per day. Geopoll conducted the survey in six African countries: Uganda, Tanzania, South Africa, Ghana, Nigeria and Kenya.

According to the study, most of the millennials have never won more than $50 on the bets. The data also shows that South Africa has the lowest usage of mobile gadgets for gaming, though it also has the highest rate of mobile penetration on the continent, reported Africa Business Communities.

The survey also showed that South Africa is also the only surveyed country in which young people prefer lotteries to football betting.
