South Dakota Adopts Sports Betting Rules

The South Dakota legislature August 2 approved sports betting regulations after a public hearing. The retail sportsbook will be limited to casinos in the state’s gaming city of Deadwood.

Final approval of the rules is set for September 8, at which time the South Dakota Commission on Gaming will also approve sportsbook operator licenses.

The objective is to allow sports betting by the time the NFL season begins September 9.

In November the voters approved the measure authorizing sports betting in the Deadwood casinos.
