The only South Korean casino that welcomes locals has delayed its reopening to June 4 due to a surge in Covid-19 cases in the country.
Kangwon Land in Gangwon Province had been scheduled to open on a limited basis last week, but at an emergency meeting, company executives decided otherwise. The meeting was held after 59 new cases of the virus were reported in two days, reported Asia Gaming Brief.
Operations at Kangwon Land were suspended on February 23, and the closure was repeatedly extended as the crisis continued. Most recently, Kangwon Land had planned to reopen May 28.
Whenever the doors open, a maximum of 1,200 patrons will be allowed to enter the casino on a daily basis—about 17 percent of pre-pandemic levels. A lottery will be conducted to select the lucky entrants.
Other social distancing measures will be in force, with gaming tables and slot machines appropriately spaced. Customers and employees will be required to wear face masks and submit to temperature checks.
