Spain Bans Gambling Ads During Children’s Hours

The Spanish government is banning radio and television ads for gambling during “children’s hours.” The hours are 8-9 a.m. and 5-8 p.m. The new restrictions also prevent gambling companies from using celebrities or fictional characters in ads that would be “attractive of striking” to children.

Spain is cracking down on radio and TV ads or gambling companies that might appeal to children.

New restrictions ban such ads during the “children’s hours” 8-9 a.m. and 5-8 p.m. The restrictions also prevent betting companies from using celebrities or fictional characters that are “attractive or striking to children” in their advertising. That includes promotions of football pools and all forms of lottery.

The Spanish National Authority for Markets and Competition approved the regulations, but added that the message “play responsibly” must be included within gambling advertisements.
