Spain Could Ban All Gaming Ads

Spanish media report that the country could soon prohibit all advertising of gaming activities. The minority government of the Spanish Socialist Workers’ Party has said it will comply with “all recommendations” from Spain’s Civic Ombudsman on the ban.

Is Spain about to ban all gambling ads? According to national media, the minority government of the Spanish Socialist Workers’ Party says it will accept “all recommendations” made by the country’s Civic Ombudsman and draft a “royal decree” to implement it across all Spanish provinces.

SBC News reports that the move constitutes the “toughest stance on gambling advertising” across all media platforms. The decree will prohibit all gambling advertising with the exception of those for national and regional lotteries and charitable organizations.

Spanish betting leaders have slammed the Ombudsman, saying its stance is based on a “misinformed agenda” that treats licensed operators like black-market organizations.
