Spain Wants to Curtail Gaming Ads

Lawmakers in Spain are asking the Spanish Gambling Authority to rein in online gambling advertising targeting certain consumer groups, including young people and the “vulnerable.”

The Spanish Senate last week considered potential restrictions on advertising by the country’s gaming operators. According to SBC News, Spain’s social and conservative parties want stricter regulations and the introduction of a regulatory code for advertisers and media owners. The media is now self-regulated.

Some measures on the agenda include restricting the amount and content of TV advertising and a ban on online advertising including pop-ups and tracked banners. Some Spanish ministers also want to limiting sports betting partnerships and sponsorships, in particular with regards to La Liga football clubs.
