Washington’s Spokane Tribe November 1 opened its 20,000 square feet of additional casino floor as it completed the second phase of its $400 million expansion a year after its groundbreaking. The casino is located in Airway Heights.
The expansion—slated for a 2025 completion—will include a hotel, convention center, restaurants, retail shopping, entertainment center and cultural center.
The casino floor, twice as big as before, includes a larger nonsmoking gaming area, more restaurants, a dedicated poker room and a sportsbook area. It also added more than 300 slots and six table games. It will reopen its craps table something this month.
Christopher Marzotto, marketing director of Spokane Tribe Casino, told the Spokane Spokesman-Review, “The overall feedback has been people like us and appreciate the safety measures we did with COVID, but a complaint was we were just too small.” The expansion, he said, “allows us to spread out and give more amenities to players.”
The sportsbook won’t open until it finalizes a partnership with “an industry-leading sportsbook partner,” said Marzotto. The tribe obtained approval from the federal government in October to offer sports betting.
Marzotto added, “I’m sure a lot of the players here will enjoy having the new amenity. We’ll have a big TV board going in that will be able to be viewed throughout the casino.”
Spokane Tribe Chairwoman Carol Evans commented, “We are excited to be a part of the community and grow with Eastern Washington.” She added, “It’s a growing, thriving region and we’re just really excited to be able to provide a good place for people to eat a meal or have entertainment. I feel good about that and at the same time, we’re providing jobs for the area and our tribal people.”
