The Match-E-Be-Nash-She-Wish Band of Pottawatomi Indians, or Gun Lake Tribe, recently named Scott Sprague as tribal council chairman. Sprague has served as director of the tribe’s Gun Lake Casino in Wayland, Michigan since 2012. In his new role, Sprague will support the tribe’s mission to be a first-class employer and a responsible governmental partner. Previously Sprague served on the tribal gaming commission and has been tribal council secretary since 2014.
Sprague, a native of Battle Creek, also has been an engineer, senior buyer and project manager in the power sector for 30 years. He holds an associate’s degree in engineering technology, a bachelor’s degree in business management and an M.B.A. with a finance specialty.
Sprague follows his cousin, Leah Sprague-Fodor, as chairman. She assumed the position in June but was not re-elected to the council in the August election. Additionally, his father, Dick Sprague, was former tribal council vice chairman.
Sprague noted, “This is one of the proudest moments of my life, not only because I am now the leader of a sovereign nation, but also because it’s a continuation of many generations of my family leading this tribe.”
Jeff Martin and Jodie Palmer also were sworn in as council members.
