St. Louis Market Declined In March

The six casinos in the St. Louis gaming market—including two in Illinois—reported a 1.4 percent revenue drop in March, to $91.4 million. Hollywood in Maryland Heights and Ameristar in St. Charles came out on top, while Casino Queen in East St. Louis lost 8.8 percent to $9.8 million.

The Missouri Gaming Commission recently released figures for March 2015, indicating the six casinos in the St. Louis area gambling market took in .4 million in overall revenue, a drop of 1.4 percent. Hollywood in Maryland Heights and Ameristar in St. Charles led the gaming market; both casinos had year-over-year revenue increases in March. River City in Lemay came in third with .5 million in revenue. Casino Queen in East St. Louis had the largest revenue decline of 8.8 percent to .8 million.

River City has remained in third place behind Ameristar and Hollywood, which then was Harrah’s, since it opened in March 2010. Revenue in its first month of operation was $15.9 million. In subsequent Marches, River City revenue increased at a higher percentage than the overall market, which includes two casinos in the Illinois. March 2013 was the only March when the casino had a year-over-year drop in revenue, but the decline was less than the market’s.

Las Vegas-based Pinnacle Entertainment owns River City, Ameristar and 13 other casinos and racetracks.
