The Cordish Companies’ Stadium Casino subsidiary announced that it will hold a groundbreaking ceremony this Wednesday, November 13, for its $150 million Live! Casino Pittsburgh, a satellite “mini-casino” approved under the license for Live! Casino & Hotel Philadelphia, under construction in South Philadelphia’s Stadium District.

Category 4 mini-casinos, created under Pennsylvania’s 2017 gaming expansion law, are satellite facilities to current racetrack (Category 1) or stand-alone (Category 2) casinos, limited to 750 slots and an initial 30 table games, subject to an additional 10 tables by request after opening. Live! Casino Pittsburgh is being built in a former anchor store in the Westmoreland Mall in Greensburg, Hempfield Township, around 30 miles from downtown Pittsburgh.

The project is expected to generate $200 million in annual economic impact and create approximately 1,460 new jobs for the region.
