Star Adds Page, Thornton to New-Look Board of Directors

In the wake of being found unsuitable for casino licensure in Queensland and New South Wales in recent months, Star Entertainment has announced two new non-executive appointments to its evolving board of directors.

The company announced that Toni Thornton and Deborah Page AM have accepted board roles—although both do have direct backgrounds in gaming, they do have a wide range of corporate and financial experience across numerous industries, which will be valuable for Star’s remediation efforts moving forward.

Thornton is slated to start right away, whereas Page will come in starting February 1 of next year. Both are subject to regulatory approval.

In a statement, Star Chairman Ben Heap said that the two new additions will be needed “during this time of significant organizational and cultural change.”

Heap added, “They bring a fresh set of skills and diversity of experience to our Board. Deborah and Toni will each play an important role as we continue to remediate and transform The Star.”

Thornton currently serves as a board member for multiple organizations, including CS Energy, G8 Education Ltd. and Millovate Pty Ltd. She is described by Star as having 15-plus years of experience in corporate finance and auditing.

Page is a certified accountant, and currently serves as chairman of Pendal Group Ltd. She also serves as a board member of Service Stream, Growthpoint Properties Australia and Brickworks Ltd.
