Star Casino Fined For Covid-19 Violation

Australian casino, the Star, got hit with a $5.500 fine for breaking social distancing rules after letting customers mill about.

Liquor and Gaming NSW levied the fine, the second issued following one sys earlier against Double Bay’s Golden Sheaf Hotel for the same infraction.

Dimitri Argeres, Acting Director of Compliance for Liquor & Gaming, said under Covid-19 orders, patrons must be seated to consume or be served alcohol.

“There is a risk of transmission if people are mingling while under the effect of alcohol,” he said. “The Star was aware of its obligations to enforce their plan as we have visited twice over the past two weeks and provided information and advice on what they should be doing. We want to send a strong message that businesses must manage these risks to ensure individual patrons and the community are protected.”

The Star Entertainment Group received a notice from NSW Health that a customer tested positive earlier in the month got Covid-19.
