Star Entertainment Gets Brisbane License

Star Entertainment, which operates three casinos in Australia, has been awarded a new gaming license in the country. It will add the Queen’s Wharf Brisbane (l.) to its existing portfolio of properties.

Second casino in Brisbane

Star Entertainment has officially been granted a license to develop a second casino in Brisbane, Australia. The company’s planned $3 billion Queen’s Wharf development will join the Treasury Casino in Brisbane as well as the Star Casino in Sydney and Jupiters on the Gold Coast.

CalvinAyre.com reports that the license for the joint venture includes an immediate payment of $213 million to the Queensland government, of which Star will pay $77 million. Star Entertainment, formerly Echo Entertainment holds a 50 percent stake in the Queen’s Wharf Brisbane Integrated Resort Development, which includes a hotel, casino and residential complex.

Its partners in the venture are the Far East Consortium Australia and Chow Tai Fook Enterprises. Together they are known as the Destination Brisbane Consortium.
