Star to Break Ground on Gold Coast Tower

Australia’s Star Entertainment Group has announced plans to develop a new AU$400 million (US$310 million) hotel and apartment tower at the Star Gold Coast (formerly Jupiters Casino). It will be the second tower in the company’s AU$2 billion (US$1.55 billion) Gold Coast Masterplan, reported Australia Business News.

The 67-story tower, slated for completion in 2024, will feature 210 five-star hotel rooms plus 457 apartments. According to Star, the company is in final negotiations with a prospective hotel brand.

The hotel will offer retail shopping, a day spa and wellness center, food and beverage outlets and a range of specialty lifestyle services.

Development on the first tower, home to the Dorsett Hotel and more apartments, is continuing. Three more towers could also be developed on the Star Gold Coast’s Broadbeach site.

Star’s state government-approved masterplan for the Star Gold Coast is being overseen by Destination Gold Coast Consortium – the joint venture between The Star, Chow Tai Fook Enterprises and Far East Consortium.

“While we continue to work through and manage the serious impacts of domestic and international border restrictions on our business and the industry more broadly, the decision to proceed with our second tower is part of our unwavering commitment to the Gold Coast,” said Star Entertainment Group Chairman John O’Neill.

“This city has unique and appealing characteristics that make it an internationally sought-after tourism destination.

“Our focus has never wavered. We are creating a world-class tourism, leisure, and entertainment destination that Gold Coast locals can be proud of, while working towards our vision of becoming Australia’s leading integrated resort company.”
