Steak Dinner Or $43 Million Jackpot?

When a slot machine in New York’s Resorts World Casino displayed the jackpot sign and said Katrina Bookman had won $42 million. Imagine her surprise when the casino offered to buy her a steak dinner instead.

A woman is suing a casino claiming that she won a million jackpot and that the casino tried to substitute a steak dinner.

Katrina Bookman was playing the Sphinx Slot Machine at the Resorts World Casino in Queens, New York and the machine showed that she had won $43 million, an unusually high jackpot for a U.S. She took a photo of herself with the screen showing the jackpot in the background.

When she tried to claim the jackpot, the casino offered her a steak dinner, saying she had actually not won anything.

The casino later determined that the amount shown on the screen was the result of a computer malfunction, something that the New York State Gaming Commission confirmed. The commission noted that all the machines have disclaimers that say in the event of a malfunction that all payouts are voided.

Bookman’s attorney Alan Ripka calls the casino’s explanation “ridiculous.” The complaint Ripka filed accused the casino of being “negligent” and inflicting “mental anguish” on Bookman. He plans to seek $43 million in damages.
