Steel Girders Lifted for MSG Sphere Project

The huge MSG Sphere off the Strip reached a milestone when two 240-ton

steel girders were lifted 140 feet off the ground, according to a Madison Square Garden Entertainment spokesperson. The girders, built using a 580-foot tall crawler crane, span the length of the Sphere’s future stage.

They’ll be filled with 300 cubic yards of concrete so they can bear the weight of the domed roof that weighs 13,000 tons, according to KSNV.

“Placing these giant steel girders is a critical milestone for MSG Sphere and a unique element of building a truly spherical venue,” Nick Tomasino, vice president of construction for MSG Entertainment, said.

Construction on the roof begins early next year. MSG Sphere will seat 17,500 with a completion date of 2023.
