Stockton University’s Lloyd D. Levenson Institute of Gaming, Hospitality, Tourism (LIGHT) recently announced the formation of two new gaming programs, one for casino operations and the other for esports.
The operations program will begin January 16, 2024 and run for eight weeks, with a three-hour session held each Tuesday at Stockton’s Atlantic City campus.
The curriculum will be taught by 12 casino professionals from Atlantic City, and will range from casino operations to food and beverage, surveillance, conventions, hotel management and more.
Students who complete the program will be awarded a Integrated Casino Resort Operations Certificate
“Participants will be empowered to take the next step in their careers, whether in advancing within their organization or pivoting to casino resort operations from a related field,” LIGHT Faculty Director Jane Bokunewicz told NJBiz.
On the esports side, Stockton announced it has partnered with Camden Community College (CCC) to launch an esports degree pathway program. Both universities offer esports-related degrees, and officials said that the new pathway program will allow students to earn both an associate and a bachelor’s degree in eight semesters.
“This program is a testament to our shared vision of providing high quality education and opportunities for the next generation of esports professionals,” Stockton President Joe Bertolino said at a press conference November 1. “We recognize the potential for esports as a growing global phenomenon and the need for qualified professionals to drive its continued success.”
“This partnership highlights both Camden County College’s and Stockton’s initiative to be at the forefront of new technology and to prepare students for new and emerging career opportunities – some of which didn’t even exist just a short time ago,” said Lovell Pugh-Bassett, president of CCC. “We are proud to offer this opportunity to student who have found their passion in the fast-growing esports industry.”
