Study: Mobile and Tablet Online Gambling Will Grow 600 Percent

With online gambling spreading in the U.S. a study by Juniper Research finds that online gambling on mobile devices and tablets will grow to $62 billion by 2018.

Online bets made through mobile devices and tablets on casino, gambling and poker websites are expected to reach billion by 2018, better than a 600 percent increase over the billion bet in 2013 according to a report from Juniper Research.

The primary driver will be the legalization of online gambling in the U.S., a previously untapped market, the study said.

The report, “Mobile Gambling: Casinos, Lotteries and Betting 2013-2018,” states that successful mobile launches in Nevada, New Jersey and Delaware has prompted other states to study online gambling. Those efforts, if realized, will likely utilize mobile devices from the outset.

Globally operators have also been spurred to develop mobile casino solutions following the success of free-to-play casino-style games, which, while not taking real-money bets, are making the games more popular.

Several lotteries are also interested in expanding into the mobile market, though movement has been slow, the report said.
