Study: More Non-Stop Flight for Las Vegas

Increasing the number of non-stop flights from Asian airports to McCarran International Airport in Las Vegas is the best way for the gambling Mecca to boost its international tourism dollars, particularly from Asia, a new study by Global Market Advisors concluded. Asia is poised to greatly increase international travel to Las Vegas, mostly from China, the paper states.

Global Market Advisors has issued a white paper entitled, “Strategies to Grow International Tourism into Las Vegas and Stimulate Economic Activity” and focuses on the critical factors necessary to attract more wide-body air service from Asia to McCarran International Airport.

Authored by Andrew Klebanow and Steven Gallaway, the paper proposes strategies the authors believe are necessary to attract Asian-based air carriers to McCarran Airport.

“There is much to like about Asian tourists: they spend more than domestic visitors, they stay longer, and they have a greater propensity to gamble, shop, and enjoy sightseeing activities,” Gallaway said. “Attracting non-stop, wide body jet service from China, Taiwan, Korea, and other Asian countries represents the greatest opportunity to stimulate tourism growth to Las Vegas.”

Much of that traffic will come from China.

“By 2020, outbound tourism visitation from mainland China will double to 200 million people, and 5.7 million Chinese tourists are expected to visit the USA by then,” Klebanow said.

“With McCarran Airport’s new international terminal and current base of over 130,000 hotel rooms, Las Vegas is well positioned to attract a sizable portion of those visitors and become an alternative gateway airport to the crowded facilities at LAX.”
