Online gambling will more than double by 2022 with 684 million gamblers wagering more than $1 trillion by 2022 according to a new projection by Juniper Research.
The study pointed to new products in the casino space, easing regulations and increased uptake in digital products as driving the growth.
The study predicts online gambling wagers will reach $1 trillion globally in 2022, with the number of gamblers reaching 684 million. Online casinos will make up to 40 percent of online wagers by 2020, said Juniper.
The new research comes from “Mobile & Online Gambling: Casinos, Lotteries, Betting & VR 2018-2022,” published by the research firm.
“We believe new channels, such as chatbots, have the potential to drive customer engagement, through delivery of personalized offers, alongside 24/7 player support,” said Research author Lauren Foye.
The research also predicts that social casino offerings will disturb the status quo of online gambling and that the industry, particularly in the casino space, will increasingly offer engaging products to attract customers.
The study also points to new opening markets, such as online play going live in Pennsylvania and possibly other U.S. states, as driving growth.
