Sun City Executive Gets Suspended Prison Sentence

A former Sun City executive known only by her surname, Ho, has received a nine-month suspended prison sentence for refusing to cooperate with law enforcement in an illegal gambling investigation. The same probe landed junket group founder Alvin Chau in prison, where he awaits trial.

According to the Macao News, 11 people including Chau were arrested by the Judiciary Police last November on charges of criminal association, the promotion of illegal gambling and money laundering.

Five of the suspects including Chau have been detained in Coloane prison while awaiting trial. The other six were released on bail, subject to certain conditions including not leaving Macau.

The judge in the case said Ho expressed no remorse for her actions. In addition to her sentence, she has been ordered to donate MOP 5,000 (US$623) to the Macao Special Administrative Region.

Since the arrests, all of Sun City’s VIP rooms in Macau have closed.
