Wilhelm: Sports betting site on tap for 2019
Chilean casino operator Sun Dreams is growing in Latin America. The company, which already operates in five countries of the region, has just acquired a casino hotel in Mendoza, Argentina and is managing the license to operate a sports betting site in Colombia, reports Games Magazine Brasil.
“Colombia is the first country in Latin America to have a regulation on sports betting and online casinos. This is a market that has a very high level of competitiveness,” Sun Dreams CEO Jaime Wilhelm told Chilean newspaper El Mercurio. “Today they have more than 10 operators for online sports betting. We expect at the beginning of next year to have our first license and start to operate.” The site will offer wagers on football, tennis and rugby, among other sports.
“The purchase of the casino in Mendoza is part of the development we have planned for the region,” Wilhelm continued. “Three months ago we announced the takeover of the Thunderbird operation in Peru, four casinos that were acquired in April. The possibility of Argentina had been brewing and we thought Mendoza met the conditions, both for the development of the city and for its gaming legislation.”
Sun Dreams may also make acquisitions in Argentina, Peru or Colombia during 2018 or 2019.
