Supremes Ruling Could Open Ohio to Sports Betting

The wording of the 2009 constitutional amendment to the Ohio constitution that made casino gaming possible could lead to sports betting automatically being added to the mix. That’s the fear of a longtime opponent of casinos in the Buckeye state.

Ohio gaming opponent Rob Walgate of the American Policy Roundtable warns that recent Supreme Court decision combined with the constitutional amendment the voters passed in 2009 that authorized casino gaming leaves the Buckeye state widen open to sports betting.

The 2009 law says the state can offer any form of gaming that a neighboring state offers. Recently Pennsylvania, reacting to the High Court decision legalized sports betting.

Walgate told the Chicago Tribune: “They could set it up for sports wagering on a computer that would be allowed for it.”
