Americans for Nonsmokers’ Rights (ANR), along with BCSlots, has released a player survey tool which can help casinos understand customer expectations on smoke-free environments.
The survey includes the following questions:
- Does secondhand smoke bother you in a casino?
- Do you believe smoke bothers casino employees and other guests?
- Do you prefer a casino that is smoke-free indoors or one that allows smoking inside?
“We’ve seen a wave of casinos adopting smoke-free policies over the last few years, with tribal casinos in particular leading the way and receiving overwhelming positive feedback,” said Bronson Frick, ANR’s director of advocacy. “We designed this survey to help operators gain a better understanding of their customers’ preferences on smoking so they can make informed decisions on smoke-free indoor policies.”
Brian Christopher, founder of BCSlots, which shows him playing slots on social media, said he’s always hearing from his company’s fans who are avid gaming enthusiasts about smoking.
“Players want a clean air environment and that secondhand smoke impacts the frequency and duration of visit,” said Christopher, a YouTube influencer whose videos reach millions of players online.
This year marks the sixth since Ho-Chunk Gaming Madison going smoke-free indoors.
“This policy has proven successful in helping our business grow and attracting new customers,” said Missy Tracy, municipal relations director at the casino. “It has also helped reduce costs on things like servicing air filters and cleaning ashtrays and maximizing the investments in deep cleaning.”
The foundation is a non-lobbying, educational, nonprofit organization that provides resources for schools, health departments, medical organizations, and others interested in issues involving smoking and secondhand smoke.
Its projects include SmokeFreeCasinos.org, which focuses on secondhand smoking risks to staff and customers in America’s commercial and tribal casinos and other gaming facilities.
