Survey: U.K. Gamblers Lean Toward Cryptocurrency

Digital money is making inroads throughout the financial system, and that includes gaming, especially in Britain.

Among British adults who gamble at least once a month online, 17 percent say they expect to use cryptocurrency in the next 12 months, according to YouGov data. By comparison, 11 percent of the general adult population makes a similar claim.

Surprisingly, 74 percent of the public admits a lack of understanding of the whole concept of cryptocurrency. Even more regular online gamblers find it confusing. More than half of regular bettors don’t trust such currency, a bit more than the general public.

Another 52 percent of gamblers think the whole thing is a passing fad. But younger gamblers have a better understanding thus more comfort.

A third of millennial gamblers consider cryptocurrencies the wave of the future for online financial transactions. Consumers don’t have transaction fees on withdrawals or deposits. Nor are exchange rates an issue.

Bitcoin remains king of the crypto domain. Of the one in seven British adults who used the digital currency in the last year, a quarter used Etherium, 18 percent have used Binance coin.
