Sweden Sees 30,000 Sign Up for Gambling Self Exclusion

Sweden’s gaming regulator Spelinspektionen reports that more than 30,000 people have signed up for the country’s gambling self-exclusion list Spelpaus.se since it went live in January.

Both online and land-based gambling operators are required to offer access to the service under new licensing procedures in Sweden. The self-exclusion list was launched as part of gambling law reforms that went into effect in January.

Self-exclusion lists allow problem gamblers to voluntarily block themselves from gambling online or at casinos and bingo halls. The country’s lotteries must also offer the service.

The regulator is already taking a hard line on operators who are failing to integrate the system into their platforms and has begun identifying operators who have not fully complied.

Genesis Gaming and Paf Consulting have received penalties from the regulator after a number of consumers that had signed up for the list reported that they were still able to gamble on sites operated by the two companies.
