Sweden’s gaming regulator Spelinspektionen is being audited by the country’s National Audit Office to find out how effective it has been since the regulated market was introduced a year ago.
All gaming companies were ordered to have a license by July 2023. Currently the number of such companies has risen to 600. The Riksdag’s goal in adopting these laws was to “regain control of the gambling market, increase channelization and protect Swedish consumers.”
The office will conduct the audit in two phases: a preparatory phase and a secondary phase when data will be gathered and analyzed. The review will be published in September 2024.
