Swedish Regulator: No Young Athletes in Ads

Swedish gaming regulator Spelinspektionen is warning operators not to feature minors in sports betting advertisements. The regulator said it’s looking into companies who may be breaching the ban on such ads.

Swedish gaming regulator Spelinspektionen is warning it will crack down on any gaming operators that feature underage athletes in sports betting advertisements.

“The regulations aim to protect the integrity of youth sports and is of importance to prevent people under the age of 18 being those looking to manipulate games, so-called match fixing,” Spelinspektionen said in a statement. “Spelinspektionen is very serious about such offenses and has therefore initiated supervision of several companies regarding betting on players under the age of 18.”

According to SBC News, the inciting event may have been a game between IFK Göteborg and AIK in Sweden’s top-tier club competition, Allsvenska.

The regulator is going after all “excessive gambling advertising” in Sweden with the help of the Konsumentverket consumer agency.
