Swedish Regulator: Too Many Gaming Ads

Sweden’s gaming regulator, Spelinspektionen, has announced that it will take steps to curtail excessive advertising of gambling in cooperation with the Konsumentverket consumer agency.

The regulator acknowledged that it has not yet determined how much advertising is considered excessive, but will reserve the right to sanction operators on a retroactive basis, reported iGamingbusiness.com.

“A violation of the requirement of moderation is typically considered to be serious,” the regulator said. “The sanction that may be applicable in an individual case depends on several different factors, such as how long the infringement has been going on.”

Spelinspektionen and Konsumentverket have been jointly responsible for overseeing marketing of gaming since the Swedish regulated market launched on January 1.
