Swiss Present Draft of Online Gambling Bill

The Swiss government has published a draft of a bill to regulate online gambling in the country. The sites would be operated through Switzerland’s land-based casinos.

The Swiss Federal Government has published a first draft of a bill to legalize online gambling through its land-based casinos in Switzerland.

The bill allows Swiss casinos to operate online gambling through their current licenses. The bill does not mention overseas online gambling operators and whether they can seek licenses.

The bill states that all online gambling winnings will be tax-free while small poker tournaments will be allowed outside land-based casinos under certain restrictions.

The bill leaves licensing policies to the country’s 26 cantons—similar to states—but would create a national body to help cooperation between the federal government and the cantons.
